By Air

The easiest and most comfortable but the most expensive way to Koh Samui is by air
directly from Bangkok, Singapore or Hong Kong. Koh Samui Airport is privately owned and
operated by Bangkok Airways and the price of the ticket is
high by comparison to other comparable destinations throughout the country.
There are also domestic flights from Bangkok to Koh Samui with Thai Air since February, 15, 2008.
An economical option to consider is a flight from Bangkok to Surat Thani. The cost of the
ticket is less than the Bangkok Airways direct flight to Koh Samui (down to 1/3). You
will find different airlines on the Airline page. However
from Surat Thani you will have to take a bus from the airport to the ferry 90 minutes and
for the boat ride also 90 minutes. The price for this bus shuttle service is 350 Thai Baht
including the ferry.
By Train

The next very comfortable way to Koh Samui is by train. We recommend to use the night
train and second class up. There are fan-cooled and air-conditioned compartments. You
will enjoy the trip and sometimes new friendships are made during the journey. If there
are no seats in the second class up, think about before buying a third class ticket. It
can be your longest journey! The price for a night train ticket from Bangkok to Surat
Thani, 2nd class, sleeping, aircon, is around 770 Thai Baht per person. More infos:

At Surat Thani train station the public bus starts to Don Sak pier. And from there the
ferry to Koh Samui, Nathon. The price for the bus including the ferry is 180 Thai Baht
together. It is absolutely not necessary to use another bus, they are much more
expensive for the same service.
By Bus

The bus is the most economical way to travel. You can buy tickets and board at the major
Bangkok public bus stations. If you are stopping at Khao San Road, you can catch an
overnight bus departing in the evening, to all southern destinations including Koh Samui.
You will stop early in the morning at Surat Thani, which is the mainland access city to
Koh Samui, where you will transfer to another bus for the trip to the ferry that crosses
to the island.
The most comfortable busses are probably the overnight "Super VIP buses."
These air-conditioned double decker vehicles have toilets, seats that lean back quite far
with leg rests at the bottom, and they also supply blankets for the journey. All buses
stop at least once for refreshment. An evening video is almost always shown on an
overhead TV. Don't forget your luggage!
